1 Admission Policy

Admission to ELES training programmes is open to all candidates who meet the minimum entry requirements, regardless of background. Our commitment is to build a diverse, skilled workforce for Nigeria's early childhood sector.

Entry Requirements

Be at least 18 years old at the time of application.
Hold at least a Basic Education Certificate or equivalent.
Be medically fit, mentally alert, and emotionally stable.
Have passed a Criminal Record Check (CRC).
Demonstrate a genuine interest in working with children.

Note: Prior experience working with children is an advantage but is not required. Admission is open to all who meet the minimum criteria.

Application Process

Complete the online or in-person application form.
Submit required documentation (ID, certificates, CRC clearance).
Attend the compulsory Trainee Initial Induction Exercise before training formally begins.
Receive confirmation of enrolment and programme placement.

2 Attendance Policy

Consistent attendance is critical to competency-based training. ELES requires all trainees to meet minimum contact-hour thresholds to qualify for assessment and certification.

Minimum Attendance

Trainees must maintain a minimum of 80% attendance throughout the programme for successful completion.
Attendance is recorded at every session, workshop, and field placement.
Absences must be communicated in advance and supported by valid documentation where applicable.

Lateness & Absence

Repeated lateness may count toward absence totals.
Trainees falling below 80% attendance will be required to retake missed modules or, in severe cases, restart the programme.
Medical or emergency absences require formal notification within 48 hours.

3 Assessment Policy

ELES operates a competence-based assessment model aligned to the National Skill Qualification (NSQ) Framework. Assessment is continuous, workplace-embedded, and designed to verify that every trainee can perform safely and effectively in real early years settings.

Core Principles

Assessment is carried out in real workplace environments — approved public or private Nursery and Primary Schools.
Trainees are assessed against the National Occupational Standards (NOS) for ECCDE.
All assessment decisions are documented, verified, and subject to internal and external quality assurance.
Fairness, validity, and reliability are maintained across all assessment activities.

Reassessment

Trainees who do not meet the required standard on first attempt are entitled to one reassessment per unit, subject to scheduling and additional guidance from their assessor.

4 Assessment Methods

ELES uses a blended portfolio of assessment methods to capture the full range of knowledge, skills, and professional behaviours required of an early years practitioner.

Direct Observation

Assessors observe trainees directly in practice — evaluating real competency in live early years settings with real children.

Question & Answer

Verbal or written Q&A sessions to verify understanding of theory, policy, and professional knowledge underpinning each competency area.

Witness Statement

Evidence gathered from employers, supervisors, or colleagues who can verify a trainee's competent performance in the workplace.

Reflective Practice

Trainees maintain reflective journals and submit critical reflections on their own practice — demonstrating professional growth and self-awareness.

Assignment

Written or practical assignments assessing knowledge, understanding, and application of ECE principles, standards, and real-world contexts.

Recognition of Prior Learning

Trainees with existing relevant experience or qualifications may have prior learning formally recognised as part of their assessment pathway.

5 Certification

Upon successful completion of all programme requirements — including attendance, assessment, and portfolio submission — trainees are awarded a formal certificate under the NSQ Framework through QVSE.

Certificates are issued by QVSE and bear the ELES centre number SWIB0122026.
Qualifications are nationally recognised and widely accepted by employers across Nigeria.
Replacement certificates may be requested in writing, subject to administrative fees.

Important: Certification is contingent on full payment of programme fees, completion of all mandatory inductions, and satisfaction of the 80% attendance threshold. No exceptions are made.
